Living with lipoedema
Lipoedema counselling in Sydney and online across Australia.
Support grounded in lived experience, where your experiences are believed, understood and met with care
Does this sound familar?
You’re wondering whether lipoedema might be part of your experience, or you’ve lived with the reality of it for a long time.
You feel exhausted and frustrated from years of trying to manage your body while feeling dismissed or not taken seriously in medical settings.
You’ve experienced medical gaslighting, or been told it’s “just weight,” “just lifestyle,” or something you should be able to control.
Things that others take for granted, like clothing, the beach, intimacy, or social situations, feel stressful or emotionally loaded.
Whether you’re managing lipoedema conservatively, thinking about surgery, or living post surgery, the emotional impact feels layered and not often acknowledged.
Even if your body has healed physically, you may still have unresolved emotions or be surprised by the emotional impact you didn’t expect.
Body image feels complicated, and you’re carrying thoughts or feelings that don’t often have a place to be spoken about.
What Lipoedema Counselling Can Support
Lipoedema counselling in Sydney can support you in making sense of the emotional experience of living with lipoedema.
This might include:
navigating body image and the way you see yourself
processing experiences of medical dismissal or misdiagnosis
considering whether lipoedema surgery feels right for you
adjusting emotionally after lipoedema surgery
living with ongoing discomfort or pain
rebuilding trust in your body and your own experience
This isn’t about telling you what to do or guiding you toward a particular choice. It’s about creating space to explore what you’re feeling, understand it more clearly, and move forward in a way that feels steady and true to you.
If any of this resonates, this may be the supportive space for you.
Many people I work with describe doing everything they’re “supposed” to do eating well, exercising, trying to stay consistent — and still feeling like their body isn’t responding. That gap between effort and outcome can feel confusing, frustrating, and at times defeating.
Lipoedema is also often misunderstood. People are dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told it’s something they should be able to control. Over time, that can lead to self-doubt — questioning your own experience, or wondering if you’re somehow getting it wrong.
This space isn’t about fixing your body. It’s about supporting you in how you experience it. That might include the frustration of not seeing change, feeling disconnected from your body, navigating decisions around treatment or surgery, or the quiet impact this has on your confidence and relationships
Understanding the emotional side of lipoedema
I offer online counselling across Australia for those living with lipoedema, creating a space where you don’t have to justify your experience or explain everything perfectly
This work is personal to me.
My experience with lipoedema included a later diagnosis, being dismissed at times, and the quiet frustration of doing everything I could and still feeling like my body wasn’t responding. I’ve also moved through both conservative approaches and surgery, and understand how layered and complex those decisions can feel.
Over time, I’ve become aware of how much often goes unspoken — the self doubt, the disconnection from your body, and the emotional impact that doesn’t always have a place to be acknowledged.
This is why this work matters so much to me. To make this experience feel a little easier, and to offer a space where you feel understood, taken seriously, and not alone in it.
This is something I now bring into my work, supporting women through lipoedema counselling in Sydney and online across Australia.
Lipoedema Podcast: Body Image and Emotional Impact
I recently spoke on The Lipoedema Podcast about body dissatisfaction and the emotional experience of living with lipoedema. We explore how it can affect identity, relationships, and the way you see yourself. This conversation may feel familiar if you’ve been navigating this yourself.
